Ryan Hard: impressive victory

Ryan Hardy has conquered The Box Pro 2011, in Australia. The Margaret River local clinched an historic victory in outstanding bodyboarding conditions.

“It means so much to win at my home break and with your friends and family and everyone here from my hometown, it’s the biggest win of my career by far. To get the conditions we have and to be able to win is just incredible, it’s a dream come true,” said Hardy.

The 31 year-old bodyboarder challenged wild and dangerous five-metre plus waves to defeat the Brazilian Magno Oliveira in the final heat. Hardy choked back tears as he accepted his trophy, in front of family and locals.

“I could see the guys who hadn’t surfed out there much were getting pulled out of position. Knowing the way the water moved around on the reef was a huge advantage. When a wave breaks at the Box, it’s much more intense than a lot of places, you have these swells that travel so far through the Indian Ocean and then hit this shallow slab of reef. It can be dangerous, but if you know which ones to catch, then it’s easily one of the most exciting waves in the world,” said Hardy.

Mark McCarthy: this is The Box

Ryan Hardy, Dallas Singer, Jared Houston, Mark McCarthy, Jeff Hubbard, Amaury Lavernhe, Magno Oliveira and Guilherme Tamega are preparing themselves for an historical bodyboarding day.

The finals of The Box Pro 2011 will be surfed in great style and deep barreling waves. “Everything points toward a dramatic and exciting finish tomororw, the forecast is really shaping up in the best possible way”, says IBA Tour Manager, Terry McKenna.

The famous Venice Beach was the perfect stage to end the 2010 Florida Bodyboarding Association Championships.

Waves offered enough juice to give opportunities to all competitors to do the best of their abilities and compete for the season titles. As the day went by, heats got more competitive, specially in some Finals.

Matt O’Brien took the first place in the Junior division, Allison Cohen did the same for Women and Damian Dinham did it for the Masters. In the AM division, Steven “Bubba” Tyson took another first place this year and Dan Worley mastered the DK and Pro divisions.

Congratulations to all winners. With these results, we have our season champions:

2010 FBA WOMEN Season Champion: Allison Cohen
2010 FBA JUNIOR Season Champion: Gunnar Schmauss
2010 FBA MASTER Season Champion: Carlos Jenkins
